Rubens Menin is the Person of the Year in Brazil, a distinction awarded by Revista de Vinhos magazine, within the scope of the “The Best of 2022” awards.
Rubens Menin, founder of the Menin Wine Company, saw a unique opportunity in the Douro: to use an immense heritage and viticultural potential to create great wines and place them in the world.
Since 2018, together with partner Cristiano Gomes, the businessman from Belo Horizonte has led this ambitious and unique wine project, which began in Gouvinhas, in Upper Corgo, with Menin Douro Estates, where around 100 hectares of vineyards are currently explored, including the largest contiguous area of old vineyards in the Douro (about 11ha).
In 2021 the Group acquired H.O Wines (formerly Horta Osório), in Cumieira, Lower Corgo. There are more than 40 hectares of vineyards and a valuable heritage with more than 3 centuries.
MWC has been standing out not only for its investment in wine in the Douro but also for young talent and the development of the region. It was considered one of the happiest companies in Portugal in 2022 and its social responsibility practices are already a model. We are talking about initiatives such as the Local Development Programme, the financing of higher education for employees, or the recent anti-inflation measure, which provided all employees with a supplementary support of €250.
This Person of the Year in Brazil award is an honorable distinction that makes us proud and, above all, encourages us to continue on this path from the Douro to the world.
We thank Revista de Vinhos magazine and everyone who, since 2018, has given us the pleasure of their collaboration.
