MENIN DOURO ESTATES WAS BORN FROM A DREAM:
TO PRODUCE GREAT DOURO WINES AND TAKE THEM TO THE WORLD.
THE PROJECT
MENIN Douro Estates is an ambitious wine development project centered in the Douro region with the aim of creating, in the medium term, a portfolio of excellent DOC Douro Wines. Red and white wines, but also Port.
The starting point is the commitment to quality, growth and preservation of the heritage at hand, with a special commitment to the enhancement of century-old vineyards. The goal is to reinforce the sustainability of terroirs and protect the diversity of grape varieties that marks the identity of the Douro.
THE ESTATES
The estates are located in Cima Corgo sub-region, in Gouvinhas, a parish of Sabrosa, in the World Heritage Site of the Douro Wine Region.
COSTA DE CIMA
It has 28ha of vineyards and 10ha of olive groves and woods. It extends from the level of the River Douro (90m above the sea) to an elevation of 240m, reaching, to the west, the River Ceira. Bordering the banks of the Douro are 11ha of vineyards planted more than 100 years ago, with more than 60 identified varieties, being one of the largest contiguous areas of old vines in the region.
QUINTA DO SOL
It has a total of 14ha of vineyards completely replanted in 2018/2019, located on hills that reach an altitude of 500m.
QUINTA DO CALEIRO
Contiguous to the Quinta of Costa de Cima and Quinta do Sol, Quinta do Caleiro has a total area of 36ha, of which 23ha are vineyards, and a majestic river front.
WINERY
It was here, with an exuberant view over the River Douro, that MENIN Douro Estates installed its production centre: a new winery, which started operations in the 2021 harvest. With four floors, part of them underground, this modern building has the most advanced technologies and vinification tools, working by gravity in the tradition of the old Douro wineries.
ENOLOGY
The enology of João Rosa Alves, with consultancy from Tiago Alves de Sousa, has the mission of following the main objective of the project: to produce quality wines that reflect the DNA of the region and represent the terroir of the Douro in the best way.
In enology, as in the vineyard, a philosophy: sustainability, quality and long term.
WINES
Menin wines are a reflection of its terroir: complex, full of finesse and great potential. The regular range includes Reserva and Grande Reserva reds, Grande Reserva whites and Vintage Port. With exceptional conditions, there will bespecial series, including Dona Beatriz, the star of the red range.
